Andy Wheble Tops 15,000 runs in Division 1

Andy Wheble created I’Anson cricket history on Saturday when he passed a notable milestone of 15000 runs in Division 1. Andy has played for over 30 years, typically always opening the batting.

The fifty year old is perhaps no longer the swashbuckling player as pictured here when he would put fear into the opposition bowlers with his ferocious striking.

Starting his Division one career in 1990 with a few games it wasn’t until 1992 when he became a fixture in the club’s 1st XI. 2006 being a pivotal season when Andy broke the division 1 record for runs scored making 1100 runs in a season, since smashed by Sohail Awan of Puttenham.

In Division 1 cricket he has played 536 matches scoring 15007 runs at an average of 31.49 hitting 87 fifties and a staggering 22 hundreds. 2012 fours and 271 sixes. With a top score of 164 v Witley back in 1998.

Andy said “ he was relieved to have finally got to the milestone, as it has been a long time coming and he has been very lucky to have kept injury free and have a very understanding wife and family allowing me to play so much cricket.”

Like so many of us he have got so much from playing cricket, some wonderful lifelong friendships and some truly memorable times.

Well done Andy – we look forward to the next milestone….
