A warm and overcast day for a spot of cricket v Farncombe Fernettes at our home ground. Most importantly it was the debut outing of our new stylish cricket tops, designed and made by Lacuna Sports!

We won the toss and chose to field, applying some good pressure by taking snappy catches at close range. Everyone happily committed to having a bowl and we were all particularly pleased to watch Kate O take her very first competitive wicket for the club. We were even more delighted when she took another one immediately after that! The hat trick ball alluded her but it was quite the moment nonetheless. Farncombe finished their innings on 286/5 and after a quick break and a debrief we went out to try overhaul that total.

The Strikers plugged away and swung wildly at a few balls but by the halfway point we’d started to make inroads into their score. Nicky T got the ball rolling with a couple of lovely boundaries. Third pair saw Elly B make a great debut, playing with a cool head and making some sensible shots to rotate the strike. Our score was 249 as our ace pairing of Al and Becca strode out to the middle. Two fours scored in the 12th over meant we were suddenly all feeling the tension. Could we claw it back?

The Strikers needed 7 from the final over to win and a run a ball for the draw. It came down to the final ball which saw Becca make contact but with the ball travelling uphill there was only the opportunity for a single. The pair sensibly took the draw and the applause from the crowd! Final scores identical in every way 286/5 for both teams.

A great afternoon and a closely fought game.

Big thanks to Susie for scoring duties and Alastair for umpiring – and to all those who came to support. The Strikers will be in action again on 2nd July as they host Frimley Phoenix Blaze. And the Chargers will be in action on Sunday 30th June, heading to Grafham to play Blackheath.
