It was the first double header of the season for the women at the weekend, with the Chargers at home to Farncombe Ferns and a friendly away at Headley, Bordon & Whitehill – and yes, the women are playing with white balls this season!

Chargers host Farncombe

With the sun blazing, the Chargers welcomed 2023 league winners Farncombe to Grayshott for their second match in the I’Anson league. The team were delighted to have guest umpire for the match, Ian Humphries, who has recently qualified as an umpire. Armed with the softball rules, Ian shared duties with Farncombe coach, Kevin.

Farncombe won the toss and elected to field, so the Chargers headed into bat. It was a tough innings thanks to some pin point bowling from Farncombe, leaving the Chargers a little tentative and not making the most of the opportunities. Farncombe were tight in the field and took 6 wickets, the Chargers finished their innings on 223.

After a much needed cool off in the shade with an ice lolly, Farncombe went into bat. A combination of well placed shots and quick running from the Ferns, saw the Chargers only able to take 3 wickets. And Farncombe finished on 282. Congrats to the Ferns on the win!

Strikers Scorching Friendly away at Headley, Whitehill & Bordon Hens

On a scorching Sunday the Strikers enjoyed an excellent friendly against newly merged Club Headley, Whitehill & Bordon.

Losing the toss, Headley elected to bat first and with an all-round excellent fielding and bowling display in the hot sunshine, the Strikers kept Headley to 297. With the chase on, the Strikers scored quickly with another fabulous all-round batting display, finishing the game just 9 runs shy of victory. Thanks to the Hens for a great match and a well needed post-match drink. So proud of the Strikers, an excellent performance from everyone and we now have a new meaning to running your bat in 😂 (IYKYK!)
