In the second to last week of the Surrey Indoor SMASH it was the semi-finals to finalise matches for the Finals on 10th December.

Facing the Chargers this week were Chiddingfold and Godalming.

First up was Chiddingfold. Losing the toss, the Chargers headed into bat in the very chilly sports hall. Chiddingfold put the Chargers through their paces, great communication and thoughtful batting meant the Chargers only lost one wicket and finished on 265/1. With Chiddingfold going into bat, the Chargers knew they needed to work hard to restrict their play. Despite some great bowling, Chiddingfold racked up the runs and the wickets wren’t falling. Chiddingfold finished on 262/1 – with the Chargers taking the win by 3 runs!

Having lost the toss (again), in the second match Godalming chose to field first, sending the Chargers into bat. Godalming are a great team and their bowling is rather intimidating, so the Chargers knew they needed to get their game faces on to minimise the loss of wickets. Batting well and communicating clearly to reduce any run outs, the Chargers nailed it to finish on 241/2. In a nail biting second innings, Godalming knew exactly what they needed to do to take the win. In a mighty effort of bowling and fielding team work, the Chargers took 7 wickets, a mix of rebound catches, bowled and run outs to restrict Godalming to 238/7 – and the Chargers took the hard fought win! Another very close match against a great team.

So it’s onto the Finals next week – good luck Chargers!
