More good news from the women’s softball team on Sunday evening as they played their third round of indoor fixtures in the Surrey SMASH.

Winning the toss to play Frimley Phoenix

The first game of the night was against Frimley Phoenix. Confidence was up with the toss won and the Chargers opting to field first. Everyone bowled an over and we saw some smart running from the Frimley pairs to secure themselves a total of 241. The Chargers took 4 wickets to keep the opposition score within reach.

Testing out some new batting partnerships meant it took a moment to find our groove, but some sneaky running in the middle overs caught us up and with just four runs required in the final two overs the 3rd pair batted sensibly to ensure we came away with the win and a score of 253.

Facing Chiddingfold in game 2

Game 2 saw us take on Chiddingfold for the first time in the competition. Another quality call on the coin toss allowed us to bowl first and we saw a couple of quick wickets from our opening two bowlers. Two more wickets followed in the third over and the opposition found themselves under plenty of pressure. In last two overs the Chargers only conceded 6 runs, a really impressive performance from the team in the field.

With Chiddingfold finishing on 222, the Chargers went into bat looking for a speedy conclusion; the opening pair whittled away at the total taking us to within 5 a win. The last pair tucked into the Chiddingfold bowling with serious intent, racking up the biggest total of the night and taking us to a final total of 256. Great cricket from everyone involved.

Big thanks to Russ Carter from Surrey for the faultless umpiring and the coaching and feedback to everyone on the night!
