On a slightly cloudy and windy day the Strikers headed to a new destination of Barrow Hills School, to play Chiddingfold Emeralds at their home ground, in an I’Anson Group A match. On a day that many would have been watching to see if England could win the second test in the Ashes, surely the bigger drama was here in rural Surrey, so much so that there was even a fly-pass from the red arrows…twice!

The Strikers loss the toss, and the Emeralds elected to field first. Opening the batting for the Strikers with 23, was Jenn and Cath with some lovely boundary shots including a 6, an unfortunate couple of wickets lost but a great start for the rest of the innings. Next up was Kirsty, and Marija in her first outing of the season, some lovely few shots and lost wicket, meant the pair’s score didn’t reflect the ability, effort and enthusiasm. The third pairing of Sonia and Becca added 29 to the score, with the loss of one wicket with some great bowling from the Emeralds. Final pair, Charlie Band Nicky T, came in and with a selection of 4’s, added 19 to the score taking the team to 269/6 after 16 overs.

The Emeralds took to the field to bat, and after three pairs it was all square with some tight fielding and great bowling from the Strikers, especially 2 wickets from Cath, one each from Sonia and Charlie, and a great catch from Jenn. Despite these heroic efforts, the last pair took the Emeralds to 276/4 to take them to a nail biting win. Congrats to the Emeralds!
