Everything to play for in the semi-finals

In the first semi-final, the Strikers took on Frimley. With both teams channeling everything they’d learnt about indoor cricket, it was a close match and a nervous few minutes for both teams awaiting the result. With a final result of 61 to 43, the Strikers were through to the final.

In the other semi-final, Grayswood played Churt for a place in the final against the Strikers. There was some great cricket in the match, with both teams playing their hearts out. Grayswood took the win to get to the final. After an exciting play off for 3rd place between Churt and Frimley, with Churt edging the win, it was time for the final.

The final showdown

In a rare event the Strikers won the toss, and elected to field first. The match got off to a brilliant start for Grayshott, taking 4 wickets in the first two overs from some precision bowling and a great catch off the wall. At the end of their batting, Grayswood had set a healthy target for the Strikers to chase. It was a tense innings for the spectators, as the Strikers took every opportunity to score runs and Grayswood did everything to restrict the play. It all came down to the last over, which included some great bowling and batting. With the last ball bowled, both teams anxiously awaited the result.

With the scores counted and verified, Kat Wells from Surrey County Cricket Club, announced the Strikers as the winners of the Womens Surrey SMASH IT 2022! Huge congratulations to the Strikers.

Over the 8-week tournament, the Strikers had 16 players taking part, who all contributed to the final win and great team spirit; Al, Ann-Marie, Becca, Cadence, Cath, Charlie B, Charlie W, Elly, Jenn, Kirsty, Lisa, Louise, Nicky, Sophie, Sonia and Trace.

‘We’ve all loved playing in the indoor tournament. The win was very much a team effort from everyone who played and supported us throughout. We’d like to say a big thank you to Kat for all her hard work and patience in running the league, and congratulations to all the teams who took part.’ Al Grant.
